This office building, completed in the 1930s as the headquarters of Varma Insurance Company, represents the soft-lined functionalist architecture of architect Oiva Kallio. The building is a magnificent Finnish city palace located along a busy park boulevard. Avarc Architects designed the comprehensive renovation of the building, preserving its architectural features, opening up its functions to the Boulevard, and reintegrating the courtyard as part of the overall architecture. The building has been largely retained in its original use as a commercial and office building. It houses, among others, the headquarters of Ålandsbanken, the restaurant Sekel, and a Fazer café. Spaces were customized for tenants and users during the project. The client for the project was Varma, and the main contractor was Haahtela-Rakennuttaminen Oy.
