The Hotel Maria

Mariankatu 23
Helsinki

m2

Originally built in 1885 as residential, celebration, and auxiliary spaces for the staff of the Uusimaa Sharpshooter Battalion, the complex covers half a block and includes four buildings that have been transformed into a hotel of exceptionally high quality even by Nordic standards. The seven-year, multi-phase conversion project began with the drafting of a zoning change in 2017. The buildings, which have served various government agencies after their military history, most recently as the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry, have been meticulously restored to international standards. The buildings are heavily protected, and the project has been guided in collaboration with the Finnish Heritage Agency. The hotel features 117 unique and spacious guest rooms, including 38 luxurious suites. The hotel also houses high-quality restaurants Lilja and Garden Terrace, the Maria Ballroom for events and meetings, as well as an intimate spa and fitness center. The hotel's spaces have been expanded to the attics, basements, under the courtyard, and the renovated courtyard. The project has been commissioned by Samla Capital and carried out by the main contractor Fira Construction Ltd.
